2020 Senior Interclub Champs summary

Final placings:

  • Women placed 6th
  • Men placed 7th

Men's Tournament summary:

Congrats to the men for always playing with enthusiasm and respect for the officials and opposition. Despite facing some tough scores, they can hold their heads up high and celebrate having these opportunities to continue playing polo.  (Di Myers - Team Manager)

Women's Tournament summary:

Our senior women's team was competitive throughout the NZ Interclub tournament. The team only came away with a single win - against Canterbury on Day 3. However, it was a really solid team performance and demonstrated the potential of this team. A bit more time together training would have had a big impact, but in a year like no other, there were plenty of smiles and comments about how great it was to be back in the water and playing the game they love.

Thanks to Liam Paterson (coach), Jeremy Davie (assistant coach), Kurt Goldsworthy (words of wisdom before and after games) and Liz Bonnar (manager).

It has been a long-held aspiration of Mountfort Park Water Polo to field senior teams in NZ's division 1 senior competition, and the good news is that New Zealand Water Polo proposes the top 6 teams from the 2020 NZ Interclub Championships qualify for the NZ National League in 2021 - so Mountfort Park women have booked their place! (Carol McKenzie-Rex)

As always, thanks to our amazing coaches and managers, especially for giving up their Labour Day weekend to be there for our players!
